Mergermarket, the mergers and acquisitions intelligence service published by ION Analytics and read across the private equity, investment banking and institutional investor community, examined the outlook for electronic patient record assets in a proprietary feature published on 20 August 2026. Written by Jonathan Smith, Christel Thunell and Anahita Sawhney, the article assesses why strategic and financial owners are weighing exits from their holdings at the same moment that artificial intelligence is raising the long-term value of the clinical data those systems hold. Ali Pashazadeh, Founder and CEO of Treehill Partners, was one of a small number of named contributors, alongside Nelson Advisors and the electronic patient record specialist Mayden.
Pashazadeh’s central observation concerned adoption rather than valuation. Electronic patient record systems consolidate a patient’s medical information from disparate paper and digital sources into a single platform, and their principal contribution is the administrative time they return to clinicians. On that basis, he told Mergermarket, the pace of uptake remains difficult to account for: “It’s beyond me why EPR hasn’t been more embraced.” He also noted, in common with the sector adviser quoted in the piece, that consolidation in previous years absorbed many of the available acquisition targets, leaving a thinner field for buyers in 2026 and helping to explain the slower start to this year’s deal activity.
On the international picture, Pashazadeh argued that the benefits of the technology, and of the artificial intelligence built on top of it, are not confined by geography. Clinical need does not vary by jurisdiction – a patient presents with the same asthma whether they are in Angola or Arizona – and the obstacles to a common standard are administrative rather than medical. The article sets that view against a market in which European vendors are expanding into Commonwealth healthcare systems to de-risk their revenue base, and in which privacy and antitrust scrutiny is intensifying as ownership concentrates.
